NEW URBAN LANDSCAPE

Over 20 % of urban surfaces consists in unused tarred flat roofs, difficult to access: Garages and stores in the courtyards, public and residential constructions, industrial warehouses and shopping centers. Thousands of flat roofs in cities and suburbs can be revitalized creating new regenerated urban areas, places of community gathering and areas of food production.

A SIMPLE SOLUTION

OrtiAlti transforms flat roofs into planted green roofs . The technology we use consists in a series of textile and plastical materials that can be implemeted in the flat roofs making them waterproof and allowing water to be retained in the soil as well as to slide easily. The soil we use has specfic characteristics being very light and easy to work. It takes only 15 – 20 cm of this soil to make a vegetable hanging garden.

A flat roof transformed into a hanging garden increases by more than 15% the value of the building on which it is realized; insulates it, reducing by 10-30% the energy consumption; allows to control the rainflow absorbing over 35%. It helps to reduce urban heat island effect and CO2 emissions and mitigates the urban noise pollution.

A green roof can also be cultivated as a kitchen garden, producing large amounts of fresh vegetables all year round for its inhabitants, who can recycle their household waste turning them into compost. But it can be much more!

A new place to get together

The OrtiAlti are above all public spaces for everyone. Children, young people and seniors who live or use the building can meet on the garden, take care of it, share experiences and knowledge, exchange products and organize cultural and recreational activities. Thanks to the garden, the roof becomes a livable urban place, a new space for socializing open to the community.
